After the terribly botched mission at Audubon Nature Sanctuary, a chunk of land in New Orleans run and maintained by local witch coven, the Gagnon, Etienne is faced with the grueling task of getting himself home and sitting through perhaps the most challenging ordeal of the night: facing down his mother. As matriarch of House Boudreaux, Catherine is dealt the difficult hand of being both political leader and mother, and has a fine line to walk in dealing with Etienne’s reckless behavior, both as a son, and her heir.
Either way, one thing is for certain, Etienne lost that bet stupendously and as such, is now going to have to honor his deal to complete the full term of the diversification program. He’s already dreading every second he’s going to have to spend with Nica, but the more time they spend together, the less Etienne can ignore all the similarities between the two. They are both incredibly driven, incredibly dedicated individuals, and over the coming weeks, Etienne is shocked to find there’s actually a lot to respect in Nicalos Caldwell, and to his mounting horror, he’s starting to loosen up around them, might have even started to enjoy their company-
But he can’t be friends with an alchemist right? No- scratch that- he doesn’t want to be friends with an alchemist- but after weeks of snarking and biting back laughter…he thinks he might want to be friends with Nica.
